Organic production is the livelihood of many families that have chosen to live in the countryside. Many of these small companies started in the late 80s and thirty years later, the marketing of their products remains unfulfilled.
The big companies have opted to export and with the help of governments and agencies and certification to promote their products.
Many factors impede the commercial development of small producers but the principal is the unwillingness of governments to support and promote the domestic market.
Small producers are challenged to grow or disappear.
So far they have survived by selling their produce to consumer cooperatives, directly to the public markets and fairs and in small stores and herbalists.
Today the sector is “more professional” and already there are big sellers at stores that provide organic products from other countries at more competitive prices.
This is the paradox that while in our country consume apples from China, other country travel to our apples. The environmental cost that is paid for this marketing makes it feasible and should not be encouraged.
